Refreshed and ready for action, the 2025 Ram 1500 is prepared to take on any task. The new model is fast approaching, and like other automakers, Ram has made some changes to fan-favorite truck around Lewiston, Maine. Ram announced that the Hemi V-8 engine option is no longer available. Instead, a pair of Hurricane twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engines are taking their place.

Why a Change in Engines

Over time, the automotive world adapts to the changes around it. Just like fashion, food, and sports, the industry is constantly changing, and new ideas are becoming popular, and the new inventory begins to change. The roaring thunder of the V8 engine isn't as popular now, especially with the rise of electric vehicles. The Pentastar V6 engine is still standard, but the V8 is officially gone.

How the New Engine Compares

The Hurricane, or the six-cylinder engine, is the same engine under the hood of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer that Augusta, Maine drivers know about. This engine produces 420 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque in its standard form, while outputting 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque in its high-output variant. The standard eight-speed automatic transmission is still standard.

The towing capacity is still on par with the truck industry, as this new engine still boasts 11,580 maximum hauling capacity and 2,300 pounds of payload. Brunswick, Maine drivers will immediately feel the extra horsepower the new engine provides.
